What Are Irregular Menstrual Cycles and Infertility

Irregular menstrual cycles can be defined as the conditions that disrupt the regular menstrual cycle in women, which plays a vital role in fertility. Some of signs of irregular periods include:

  • Bleeding or spotting between periods.
  • Menstrual bleeding that lasts longer than normal.
  • Heavy bleeding during your period.
  • Bleeding after sexual intercourse.
  • Bleeding after you’ve reached menopause.

Procedure for Treating Irregular Menstrual Cycles and Infertility

The treatment of irregular menstrual cycle depends on the underlying cause

Control of The Menstrual Cycle: When the patient has heavy bleeding, our doctors prescribe hormones such as estrogen or progestin to help control the bleeding.

Pain Control: If the patient feels pain or cramps, our doctors prescribe pain relievers, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Uterine Fibroids: At our practice, we treat this medically and surgically. In the past, we treated most fibroids cases that caused mild symptoms with pain relievers. If you are experiencing severe bleeding, we offer an iron supplement that helps to prevent or treat anemia. We then use Low-dose birth control pills or progestin injection to control heavy bleeding caused by fibroids.

Endometriosis: Although there is currently no way for curing endometriosis, we use pain relievers to lessen the displeasure. Hormone treatments such as birth control pills are then administered since they help prevent overgrowth of uterine tissue and reduce the amount of blood loss during periods. In more extreme cases, progestin or a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist is used to stop menstrual periods temporarily.
